Working for Success Programme Finder

Working for Success is a 20 hour programme designed to support young people with personal development and and employability skills, recognised through Open Badges.

Each of our 4 programme focusses on the development of specific types of work ready skills. This tool will suggest which of our 4 Working for Success Programmes will be the best fit for you and your team.

So how does the Programme Finder work?

This tool will take you through a series of very short questions that we want you to answer as a team. There are no right or wrong answers, but you will need to work together to select the answers which are best in line with your group's responses.

Based on these answers, the Programme Finder will suggest one of the four programmes, best suited to your group.

Making a Team Pledge:

Once the results are in for your team, we'll ask you to visit our Pledge board.

Add your team's name, upload a team snap or a logo and add your pledge to show your commitment to the programme.

This will also allow your team to look back and see how far your team has come and if you managed to get what you needed from the programme.

Questions should be answered in terms of how far you agree with the statements.

Prepare

We recommend the 'Prepare' programme for your group. So just what is the 'Prepare' programme?

First of all let's take a look...

So this programme focusses on engaging with learning full stop. We don't even look at Work Ready skills at this point. Instead, working with your group and your Tutor you're going to access our public badge library and together decide what it is you want to learn to do as a group over the 20 hour programme.

So you're in the driving seat. Let's have a look at the Public Badge Library.

Obviously, you need to be aware that what you learn is also dependant on the skills of the Tutor and on the resources available so what you choose needs to be realistic!

What if there's nothing there that you want to learn in the Public Badge Library?

Then with your Tutor, using the badge canvas tool, you're going to create badges and tasks for what it is you as a group want to learn! These will be created in your centre's academy. Again, you need to be realistic. A brain surgery badge isn't realistic in 20 hours or with the equipment at hand.

Why?

For whatever reasons you've not been able to demonstrate that you are 'Driven'. That you can actively take part in a learning programme and persevere to the end. Employers look for this very thing in potential employees. The Prepare programme allows you to show your 'drive' and even better you get to shape what you learn.

Does this programme with some 'tweaks' by the Tutor based on your answers seem a good fit for your group?

Is this because you feel as a group as if you need a more advanced programme?

We can easily and confidently identify our strengths, our successes and areas we need to develop

Engage

We recommend the 'Engage' programme for your group. So just what is the 'Engage' programme?

First of all let's take a look...

Ok, so we're focussing on helping you develop in two really important personal development areas: being self-aware and being self-assured. So, we're talking about being able to explore your strengths, your successes and areas where you need to develop. Not only that, it's about being able to communicate that confidently to other people. The programme will involve working with you on a number of activities that help you with this. There's no point us helping you to create a CV if you're struggling to identify what you can put in it. So let's start at the beginning!

You can see what other young people like you have been producing for their evidence so you get a 'feel' for what you're going to be doing.

Is this because you feel as a group as if you need a more advanced programme?

We could confidently tell someone that we don't know - what we're good at & things we'd like to get better at doing

We know how to respond appropriately to feedback and criticism

Develop

We recommend the 'Develop' programme for your group. So just what is the 'Develop' programme?

First of all let's take a look...

Ok, so we're focussing on helping you develop in two really important personal development areas: being resilient and being receptive. So, we're talking about being able to respond positively to feedback & criticism as well as being open to doing things in new ways. Not only that, there will be a mini placement where you get to consider what appropriate workplace behaviour looks like & understand a number of potential job roles. If no-one shows you, how are you going to know otherwise? The programme will involve working with you on a number of activities that help you with this.

You can see what other young people like you have been producing for their evidence so you get a 'feel' for what you're going to be doing.

We listen to other people and can approach a task with a different perspective or do it in a different way

We know what appropriate behaviour in the workplace is & we could 'do' that behaviour if we were in the workplace

We have great online profiles that really sell our skills & achievements

Equip

So just what is the 'Equipped' programme?

First of all let's take a look...

Ok, so we're focussing on helping you create work ready tools. As well as that, we're going to arm you with some knowledge about the employment market in your local area to help you to access opportunities. We'll also be seeking to add a work experience opportunity to your online profile. The programme will involve working with you on a number of activities that help you with this.

You can see what other young people like you have been producing for their evidence so you get a 'feel' for what you're going to be doing.

We feel prepared & confident that we could perform in a job interview

We understand the job market & growth sectors in our local area

We have taken part in work experience and have been able to evaluate our performance and use it to inform our future plans

Delivery

Great, you're nearly ready to pledge to the programme. One final question! As a group, what format do you feel the programme would be best delivered to you in? You have a choice of two ways. 1) As mini projects 2) Capability specific?

What?

Some young people have found that they prefer to work on small challenges as a way to learn and develop work ready capabilities. In these, the development of these capabilities is 'wound in' to a project so you don't neccessarily see it e.g you don't get a badge for self-awareness (a work ready capability) but instead you get a badge for the project itself e.g Interviewing at West Ham.

Other young people have found that they prefer to earn badges that make the work ready capabilities more obvious (almost like check listing) so they prefer to earn a badge that's called 'self awareness'. Why? Because they can use it as a clear marker to help them when asked relevant interview questions.

The choice is yours!

Ask your Delivery Tutor to take a note of your preference and it's time for your team to make your pledge. Your Tutor will need the Stormboard log in details for you to make your pledge. Good luck on your programme!

Tutor

We don't like trying to force square pegs into round holes. It sounds like 'tweaking' our current programmes might not work for your group. It sounds like we need to develop something else to better match what you want from the programme. Your Tutor will feedback your discussions to the Working for Success team and we'll start figuring out what it is we need to build for you. Watch this space! Your Tutor will be back in touch soon.
